The 2017 season is here and I've decided to start a blog. I'll be updating throughout the summer and plan to update while in my second year at school. My first year at University of Guelph is in the books and I'm happy with how it went. I'm keen for a summer filled with new experiences and lessons learned through training and racing.
This first blog post will mainly just be focused on how I got into triathlon and what I’ve been up to, leading up to this post (some of you may not care, but it's all good). I've always enjoyed running, ever since elementary school where my cross-country coach at the time was a triathlete himself and said I should give it a go. A couple of months later I found myself at the finish line of my first triathlon. I ended up doing a few more that summer, but never really took it that seriously. It wasn't until grade ten when this sport became a huge part of my life. I joined a track and swim club and began to see steady improvement within all three disciplines of triathlon (swim, bike, and run). Throughout the next few years in high school the sport became an increasing focus for me. It began to provide me with so much more than just exercise. I got to go to cool places for races that I never would have otherwise, I got to meet so many diverse and amazing people, many of whom I am still friends with, and most importantly, I feel this sport has helped shape me into a better person.
Once I finished high school, as I said earlier I decided to go to the University of Guelph. This school feels like triathlon central, as there are many athletes training out of here. In other words, their is no shortage of training partners or clubs to join. This was definitely a contributing factor as to why I chose this school and after completing first year I am happy with my decision to attend this school. I joined Team LPC, who are based out of Guelph, several months before beginning school here and train with several committed and fantastic people who push me daily. This was my first full winter being coached by James Loaring and I am hoping for improvements this 2017 season. Nothing drastic just to perform to the best of my abilities and learn from and improve upon every race.
Currently I am back home for the summer, but am in Guelph a couple times a week for group training, as I have nobody to train with in these parts. I’m stoked to see what can happen this summer and thanks for giving this first post a read. My next race is June 4th in Joliette, Quebec. I’ll be posting after that race, just giving a low down on what happened within the race and what’s next.
Thanks again
